       There is a farmer.  He lives near a road.  It is not a busy road, but from time to time, cars pass the farm. 

Near the farm gate, there is large hole (坑) in the road. This hole is always full of water, and the drivers can not 

see how deep the hole is. They think it is probably shallow (浅的 ). Then when they drive into the hole, they can

not drive out because it is so deep. The farmer doesn't spend much time working on his farm.  He spends most 

of it watching the hole. When a car drives into it, he pulls the car out with his tractor (拖拉机) and charges (收费) the driver a lot of money for doing this.       

        One day, a driver says to him, "You must make much money by pulling cars out of the hole night and 

day."       

        "Oh, no," the farmer says,  "I don't pull cars out of the hole at night. At night I fill the hole with water. "
