All of us are part of society. We have rights and responsibilities. We ought to understand what they are. We have to know a little bit of history and geography, because we need to have an environment in which to relate to the people around us.
How will we test students on these? We can’t. But that’s not a reason to avoid teaching what is important. Our schools should spend every moment they have telling this to our children: ”This is life, this is what you are going to face, and this is how you deal with it.”

十月的雪域,杨树叶子已褪去绿色,换成了一身鹅黄的衣裳。

从日喀则出发时已是黄昏时分,太阳逐渐消散了所有的炙热,像一双温暖的手轻轻抚着行人的皮肤。远处荒凉的山脊统统被镀上了层金黄色的暖意,跌荡在岁月的漩涡深处,直逼人的视线。此刻,浩瀚的广漠与窗外的朔风纠缠在一起,卷动地上堆积的树叶,穿透那牛皮线装书的史帙,令凝滞的美与动态的美在无垠的空间纠缠。车沿着雅鲁藏布江继续在窄窄的柏油路上奔驰,太阳悄然翻过山坳,地面于是便呈显山岭投下的巨大阴影,在光与影的分割线中,“冷竣”从深潜的地府渗了出来,给人的心灵以哆嗦。

当阳光被时光拽入玄宇,把所有橘红的辉茫收敛入匣子时,夜的幕帷才轻缓地拉开,令高原顿时失去了白日的生机。

飞翔的野鸽早早地收起自己的羽翅,栖身于悬崖或是桥洞里打着盹,聒噪的麻雀也躲到了不知名的地方哑了声,田垅里的虫子在失去青稞的庇护也不再歌唱,周边的一切都显得如此安静与宁谧,惟有的仅是车轮辗过路面发出的“唰唰”声。

透过车窗望去,蒙胧地可以看到身后迅速消逝的灌木,灌木后面只是一团深邃的黑,因为黑夜遮断视野。

黑,是短暂的。稍时,月牙儿就从前方的山巅羞涩地闪了出来,像海礁上的灯塔散发着淡淡的清辉,指引着夜行人前行的路。不知何时,月的银色已像泉水涌入车内,塞得满满的,侧身看到同行的人面部都呈现出肃穆安详,皆是眯着眼睛假寐。的确,享受这月下难得的惬意是种幸福。

窗外的月铺满了河山,可以借着这清幽令人欣赏到外界另一种非凡的美。河面荡漾着一层银波,碎鳞般地倒映着月牙儿粗糙的轮廓,隔河的山峦像一幅巨大的屏风以淡蓝色的天幕为背景,逶迤伫立,虽然只是黑黝的影像,正前方的天空没有一丝云彩,月牙儿的周边是一圈银晕,浸润着无际的穹窿,几枚稀疏的星盏遥遥地闲搁在月亮的周际,较往日少了几分颜色。
