快到轧钢车间门口的时候,新来的杨厂长忽然停住了脚步。

杨厂长看到了一幅标语,红底黄字的横幅显然是刚挂上去。吸引杨厂长的并不是横幅的新旧,而是横幅上面的字句:工作在一线开展,问题在一线解决,经验在一线积累,才干在一线增长。杨厂长看着标语有点眼熟,后来忽然一拍脑袋,想起来了,横幅上的那几句话正是自己昨天刚刚在中层干部会议上传达的。没想到,这么快就被挂出来了。

杨厂长认真地回忆了一下昨天参加会议的人员。他初来乍到,一些中层干部还是第一次见面,但是对坐在“轧钢车间”位置上的那个人,杨厂长还是有一点点印象:大约四十来岁,小眼,但透着一股子的干练。杨厂长记得,自己讲话的时候,那个人一直记录,好像一刻也没有停,全神贯注的样子一度让杨厂长觉得这个濒临倒闭的轧钢厂还是有希望的。现在杨厂长忽然涌起了想见见这个人的念头。

有了这样的想法,杨厂长的脚步不由得转向了轧钢车间的大门,本来这个夜晚,他只想随便走一走,了解一下生产线,可是现在他的兴趣忽然间就被调动了起来。他觉得自己的这一趟夜查也许会有意想不到的收获。

也许是厂房过于陈旧了,白炽灯在偌大的厂房里显得并不明亮,反而有一种幽暗的感觉。想象中的机器没有运转,几个没有戴安全帽的职工散落在长长的轧线上,似乎在等待着什么。杨厂长看看他们,想说什么,忽然又止住了。他对着一个大眼睛的小个子招招手,“怎么了?怎么不生产了?”小个子看看他,爱答不理地说:“不是出故障了嘛。”“什么故障?”杨厂长追问了一句。“不太清楚,你问领导去吧。”小个子显然有点不耐烦了。“你的领导在哪里?”“你去那边问问吧。”顺着小个子手指的方向,杨厂长看到了一个值班室,透过窗户,他看到了影影绰绰的几个人影。

杨厂长没有敲门,径直推门走了进去,值班室里烟雾弥漫,刺得眼睛好半天才适应了里面的环境。有四个人在打牌,对他的到来根本就没有在意。   

杨厂长尴尬地站了一会儿,然后一个人很没趣地退出来,他围着长长的轧钢线走了两个来回。映入他眼帘的是布满污垢的设备和一些随处可见的垃圾,而在一个拐角处他差一点儿和一个在那里小便的人撞个满怀。   

退出轧钢车间的时候,杨厂长又看见了那幅标语:工作在一线开展,问题在一线解决,经验在一线积累,才干在一线增长。杨厂长笑了笑,他觉得太有意思了。

杨厂长不甘心地从调度室要了轧钢车间主任的手机号码,但是手机一直关机。   

几天之后,杨厂长让人摘掉了那幅标语,并要求各车间把现场所有的标语都摘下来。

大家感觉到那几天有些冷,风似乎变了方向。
