1934年7月，（）奉命率红军北上抗日先遣团北上，至皖南遭国民党军重兵围追堵截，终因众寡悬殊于1935年1月失败被俘，在狱中他写下了《清贫》、《可爱的中国》等文章。8月在江西南昌英勇就义，时年35岁。
