浮生半日闲

忙碌的现代人,无不叹闲暇不易得,于是也格外怀念当年农村社会的悠闲岁月。我学习英文时,读到一篇好文章,题目叫做“puttering”,照字面解释是漫无目的地摸摸这样,碰碰那样,让时间闲闲地溜走,心也闲闲地一无挂碍。

我觉得这位作者,对闲适情操的体认,颇近乎我国诗人陶渊明。陶靖节的东篱采菊,正是一种“漫无目的”的闲散动作,南山“悠然”地出现在他面前,他又何曾用力去看。所以他才能“晨兴理荒秽,带月荷锄归”,顺应自然,享尽田园之乐。

现在人活着似乎只为抢时间,可是把时间抢下来又何曾好好地过呢?我好怀念小时候在家乡的闲荡日子,漫步在田埂上,自然而然会让路给吃草的黄牛。走在高低不平的卵石大街上,一路都有人笑眯眯地喊我的乳名。那时的人情是多么温暖,天地是多么辽阔,时间是多么富裕啊。记得那时全个村庄,只有我家老屋大堂正中挂有一口自鸣钟,而钟摆常常是停止摆动的,即使有时发出的嗒嗒之音,指针所指的时间,和长工们的作息毫无关系。他们只看日头的高低,听公鸡的啼声,就知道是什么时辰。在忙月里,他们胼手胝足,却是口哼小调,面带笑容。闲月里,他们嚼着自己种的花生和胡豆,下象棋、钓鱼,也是口哼着小调,面带笑容。他们从来没有和时间赛过跑,可是从日出到日落,他们都在工作中,他们也都在游息中。

至于像前文所引述那样puttering的情趣,我的外公,我的母亲,就十足地在时时享受着。我外公有一只八宝箱,是他自己用洋油箱装钉而成的,我每回掏时都发现添了些新东西——他自己用竹节做的烟嘴,文旦皮晒干做成的碗,干佛手,我玩厌了的地螺陀。三炮台香烟罐里各色各样的香烟招牌纸、邮票。此外就是父亲送他的白玉烟嘴,绿玉班指,杭州舒连记的檀香骨折扇。这些都是我百玩不厌的。至于母亲的八宝箱,乃是一只竹编的针线盒,那更耐人翻弄了。盒子分上中下三格,上格是五彩丝线、纸花、绣了一半的鞋面、剪刀、顶针等等,中格是《花名宝卷》、她手抄的《心经大悲咒》。最下一格藏着一个像红柿子似的朱砂圆盒。里面是我小时候挂的长命百岁金锁片,母亲的旧珠花、银耳环、银手镯等等。我当时觉得最有趣的是外公的八宝箱里存着舅舅小时候的银锁链,母亲的八宝箱里,存着我小时候的金锁片。后来想想,人就是这样一代一代往下绵延,也就是这样一代一代,把对儿孙的爱埋藏在一个摸得到,看得见的地方。让长大了的儿孙们,有朝一日,打开来摸摸看看,重新领略一下长辈的爱,再一代一代往下传。可惜时至今日,为生事奔波的人们,再也无暇去打开尘封的旧物,而且也无心把虽无用却不舍得丢弃的东西,归在一只箱子或一只盒子里了。这,对他们自己和儿女们来说,都少了一份Puttering的乐趣,怎不令人惋惜。

可是人来到世间,难道就为了赶时间,赶完了时间就与世长辞吗?想想该有多傻!我们为什么不能学学闲荡?我们这些劳碌的现代人,是否舍得把时间花在闲荡上,或搞搞所谓的puttering,以偷得浮生半日闲呢?
