唐文化是公元7—9世纪世界上最先进的文化,对亚洲和西方乃至世界文明产生了巨大而深刻的影响。因唐朝在世界上享有的盛誉,在海外的中国人也因被称为“唐人”而感到荣耀。海外华人聚居的地方也因此被称为“唐人街”,又称华埠或中国城,英语:Chinatown。

唐人街的形成,主要是因为早期华人移居海外,成为当地的少数族群,在面对新环境时需要同舟共济,便群居在一个地带,所以多数唐人街是华侨历史的一种见证。
