中国的山水画作为文人对自己生存环境——大自然的观照，深深地打上了意识形态的烙印，蕴含着深厚的文化哲学内涵。山水画虽然以自然景物为描绘对象，但在中国山水画的水墨写意中，两度(平面)空间、多点透视及线的表现特点又不是客观真实的再现，这充分体现了中国山水画“以形媚道”和“天人合一”的两大特征。西方人一直对中国画家早就能够完整地表现出山水百思不解。山水画出现的前提包括非拟人的自然哲学，在古希腊的地中海地区，洛克利歇斯的《神圣的自然》就是这一哲学的最基本的文字表述。那时的古希腊地中海地区出现了一种有创见的、有发展前途的西方山水艺术。它远远先于远东地区的山水画，但后来的基督教改变了这一切。西方山水画艺术被扼杀、中断了，直到文艺复兴运动后，一些思想家和艺术家表现出对自然的热爱，山水画才得以重新发展。然而在中国，自然哲学一直把人和自然看做是无法分割的整体，这种“天人合一”的观察自然的方式，为山水画提供了创作前提。中国山水画在“以形媚道”的创作思想指导下，以似与不似、虚虚实实的创作方法把自然和人格之美结合起来，通过对自然界的山川、草木、宇宙、大地的赞美来表现出人的理想心态及人格。

禅宗是佛教中唯一推动山水画发展的部分。禅的实质是“释迦其表，老庄其实”；但是禅对人生及宇宙的直觉体验，“顿悟”其中的奥妙玄机，比道家略高一筹。禅的神秘的哲学精神是将儒、道、佛、印度教的思想有机地融合在一起形成的观察宇宙人生的思维方式，其本质是一种生活体验。禅宗无视保守主义、形式主义、公式主义，即任何约束和限制的东西，禅宗象征着绝对自由，这给画家们发挥创造力提供了无限的空间。禅宗还主张“心造万物”，强调心是物质世界的主宰。这些观念对中国山水画产生了深刻的影响，画家们在作画时力求简单、随意，把画作为纯粹的内心直觉体验。画家从第一笔开始到最后一笔收束，由心主宰画面中天地间万物。禅宗对有限与无限的自然空间的体验，把中国山水画推向了更灵远的意境。

The next morning Alex was waiting in the FMA president’s suite when Jerome Patterton arrived. Alex filled him in quickly on the Jax report. Then he said, “I want you to give an order to the trust department to sell every share of Supranational we’re holding.”

And I know it’s irregular.” His eyes sought Alex’s for reassurance. The hand holding the telephone trembled as he said, “There’s no time to hold meetings. So do it! Yes, I accept responsibility.”

He hung up and reached for a glass of water. “The stock is already down. Our selling will depress it more. We’ll be taking a big beating.”

“It’s our clients-----people who trusted us-----who will take the beating. And they’d have taken a bigger one still, if we’d waited. Even now we’re not out of the woods. A week from now the SEC may disallow those sales.
