Dear Jenny,
I've been in China for one year, and I found something interesting about the five-letter word HELLO.
Chinese people always say "Hello!" to me in the street every day. "Hello" from different people can have
different meanings. If a taxi driver says "Hello!" to me, he means "Welcome!" A street vendor may ask me
to buy something by saying it. When a student says it, he may mean "Could you practice English with me?"
In fact, Chinese people are studying English hard to welcome the foreigners to the Beijing Olympics.
I hope you and your friends can come to watch the Olympics and feel how friendly the Chinese are from
their hellos.
OK, let' s stop here! I look forward to seeing you in Beijing this August!
Love,
Jeff
