Over the past decade, Australia’s wines have achieved international fame and its winegrowing areas have become a major tourism attraction. However, including more than one or two of these scattered wine regions on an itinerary is often not practical, which makes Adelaide’s National Wine Centre a major tourist attraction.
Opened in B00A, this centre is a single showcase for Australia’s entire wine industry. Apart from offering tastings of an enormous range of Australian wines, the centre also allows visitors to make an interactive journey through the past, present and future of Australian winemaking. " We want to make sure it’s a fun and simple way for everyone to learn more about wine, " according to Nikki Seymour-Smith, National Communications Manager for the Wine Centre. " Visitors can see how the grapes are affected by different growing conditions, how the grapes are picked and crushed and the maturation process. There is also a bouquet area, which shows visitors how to use their noses to detect certain characteristics in the wine, so that they can better understand some of the terms that experts use when they judge a wine " .
Customers can also purchase wine at the centre. An information area inside the centre will enable visitors to gather brochures and maps to assist in planning their own journeys through Australia’s wine regions. As well as the National Wine Centre building, the three-hectare site incorporates a vineyard and restaurant. The centre is situated in a prime part of the city-on the corner of North Terrace and Hackney Road, in Adelaide’s stunning Botanic Gardens.
