    The boys took out their exercise-books. All of them began to write the numbers down except one

number in his exercise-book and put up his hand.

    "May I go home, sir?" he asked. "I know the answer now."

    The teacher and the other boys were very surprised.

     I will never forget the year when I was about twelve years old. My mother told us that we would not
be   1  Christmas gifts because there was not enough money in our family. I felt sad and thought, "What
