《本草经集注》的作者是陶弘景，字通明。《本草经集注》取《名医别录》等魏晋以来本草著作中药物365种与《神农本草经》原有药物相合得730种，使药物品种增加一倍，又以朱书表示原有药物，用墨书以示新增药物。公元659年唐政府修订并颁发的《新修本草》是我国和世界第一部由国家编撰的药典。它是由苏敬等20余人集体编写，全书载药844种，首创通过绘图描记药物形态和颜色标准，记述了道地药材的产地、采药时日、形态鉴别以及加工炮制。
