The celebration of Thanksgiving will be not perfect without turkey. It gets its name from the turk
turk sounds it makes when frightened. Turkey was at one time being considered as the national symbol
(象征) of America. Benjamin Franklin felt that turkey was the, right choice because it was a good runner
and had good eye.
It is said that pilgrims (清教徒) had a large meal with cooked turkey after their first harvest in the
year 1621.It continued for three days and included ninety Indians.
Queen Elizabeth of 16th century England ate roast goose (烤鹅) during a harvest festival. From
then on, goose became a favorite bird at harvest time in England. However, when the pilgrims arrived in
America, they replaced(用......替换) the roast goose with roast turkey as it was easier to find.
Today, every house cooks turkey as the main dish during the celebration. The festival completes
with the ' Turkey Song' .
