Because earthquakes happen without warning, it’s important to take steps now to prepare. Because you don’t know where you will be when an earthquake happens, prepare some supplies for your home, workplace, and car.

1.Water.

A person need at least 1/2 gallon of water daily just for drinking. Store at least 1 gallon of water per person per day and be prepared for a 72-hour period.It is suggested that you buy bottled water. Keep bottled water in its original container and do not open it until you need to use it. Also, do check the “use by” date.

2.Food.

It’s always a practical idea to keep a supply of nonperishable (不易腐烂的)food on hand. Have an enough supply of canned food, powdered milk, dried fruits, nonsalted nuts and canned juices for at least 72 hours.

3.Flashlights (手电筒) and spare batteries.

Keep a flashlight beside your bed, at your place of work, and in your car. Do not use matches or candles after an earthquake until you are sure that no gas leaks.

Prepare a battery-powered radio and spare batteries. Most telephones will be out of order, so radios will be your best source of information.

4.Clothes.

If you live in a cold place, you must think about warmth. You might not have heat after an earthquake. Think about your clothing and bedding supplies.

①对于一些作家,故乡只属于自己的童年;它是自己生命的巢,生命在那里诞生;一旦长大后羽毛丰满,它就远走高飞。但我却不然,我从来没有离开过自己的家乡。我太熟悉一次次从天南海北、甚至远涉重洋旅行归来而返回故土的那种感觉了。只要在高速路上看到“天津”的路牌,或者听到航空小姐说出它的名子。心中便充溢着一种踏实,一种温情,一种彻底的放松。

②我喜欢在夜间回家,远远看到家中亮着灯的窗子,一点点愈来愈近。一次一位生活杂志的记者要我为“家庭”下一个定义。我马上想到这个亮灯的窗子,柔和的光从纱帘中透出,静谧而安详。我不禁说:“家庭是世界上惟一可以不设防的地方。”

③我的故乡给了我的一切。

④父母、家庭、孩子、知己和人间不能忘怀的种种情谊。我的一切都是从这里开始。无论是咿咿呀呀地学话还是一部部十数万字或数十万字的作品的写作;无论是梦幻般的初恋还是步入茫茫如大海的社会。当然,它也给我人生的另一面。那便是挫折、穷困、冷遇与折磨,以及意外的灾难。比如抄家和大地震,都像利斧一样,至今在我心底留下了永难平复的伤痕。我在这个城市里搬过至少十次家。有时真的像老鼠那样被人一边喊打一边轰赶。我还有过一次非常短暂的神经错乱,但若有神助一般地被不可思议地纠正回来。在很多年的生活中,我都把多一角钱肉馅的晚饭当做美餐,把那些帮我说几句好话的人认做贵人。然而,就是在这样困境中,我触到了人生的真谛。从中掂出种种情义的分量,也看透了某些脸后边的另一张脸。我们总说生活不会亏待人。那是说当生活把无边的严寒铺盖在你身上时,一定还会给你一根火柴。就看你识不识货,是否能够把它擦着,烘暖和照亮自己的心。

⑤我的许多温情的故事是裹在海河的风里的;我挨批挨斗就在五大道上。一处街角,一个桥头,一株弯曲的老树,都会唤醒我的记忆。使我陡然“看见”昨日的影像。它常常叫我骄傲地感觉到自己拥有那么丰富又深厚的人生。而我的人生全装在这个巨大的城市里。

⑥一次,在法国,我和妻子南下去到马赛。中国驻马赛的领事对我说,这儿有位姓屈的先生,是天津人,听说我来了,非要开车带我到处跑一跑。待与屈先生一见,情不自禁说出两三句天津话,顿时一股子惟津门才有的热烈与义气劲儿扑入心头。屈先生一踩油门,便从普罗旺斯一直跑到西班牙的巴塞罗那。一路上,说得净是家乡的新闻与旧闻,奇人趣事,直说得浑身热辣辣,五体流畅,上千公里的漫长的路竟全然不觉。到底是什么东西使我们如此亲热与忘情?

⑦家乡把它怀抱里的每个人都养育成自己的儿子。它哺育我的不仅是海河蔚蓝色的水和亮晶晶的小站稻米,更是它斑斓又独异的文化。它把我们改造为同一的文化血型。它精神的因子已经注入我的血液中。这也是我特别在乎它的历史遗存、城市形态乃至每一座具有纪念意义的建筑的原故。我把它们看做是它精神与性格之所在,而决不仅仅是使用价值。

⑧我知道,人的命运一半在自己手里,一半还得听天由命。今后我是否还一直生活在这里尚不得知。但我无论到哪里,我都是天津人。不仅因为天津是我出生地——它决不只是我生命的巢,而是灵魂的巢。
