On October 13, 2011, two-year old Wang Yue was playing on the street. Unfortunately, a small
van rushed by and ran over the young girl. But with brief stopping, the van continued driving. Then a
second vehicle struck the girl again and rushed by without stopping. At least 18 people passed the
seriously injured girl before finally an old woman who was later discovered to be making a living by
collecting scraps came to her rescue. After 8 days of struggle in hospital, Wang Yue died and left us
forever. The incident has stirred heated discussions both in and outside China.
Most people can't believe this incident should have happened in Guaiigdong, a place where China's
economic reforms first began and a place which has powered the country's remarkable growth.
