还是金字塔。
由于没有充分的证据肯定这几座最大的金字塔是法老的墓,现代有不少学者根据金字塔所包含的各种建造数据与天体运行规则的对应性、预见性,断言这是古人对后人的一种智能遗嘱。这用我的话来说就是,它们就像用巨石筑建的《易经》,后人读得懂就读,读不懂就独处一隅,等待着更遥远的后人。
这种思路很有趣味,如果有可能,那么金字塔就属于“另类文明”。其实,不说建造目的,光看那种无法企及的建造后段,也已关及“另类文明”。我本人并不倾心一度相当流行的所谓金字塔是外星人所造的说法,比较主张它们出于我们并不清楚的一种也属于人类自身的文明。
当一切不可能已经变成事实矗立在眼前,那么不妨说,金字塔对于我们长久津津乐道的文史常识有一种局部的颠覆能量,至少指点我们对文明奥义的解读应该多几种语法,而不能仅止于在一种语法下词汇的增加。
本来也许能读一部分,可惜欧洲人做了两件不可饶恕的坏事。第一件是,公元前四十七年,凯撒攻占埃及时将亚历山大城图书馆的七十万卷图书付之一炬,包括那部有名的《埃及史》;第二件事更坏,四百多年之后,公元390年,罗马皇帝禁止异教,驱散了惟一能读古代文字的埃及祭司阶层,结果所有的古籍、石碑很快就没有人能解读了。
如果说第一件事近似秦始皇焚书,那么第二件事正恰与秦始皇相反,因为秦始皇统一了中国文字,相当于建立了一种覆盖神州大地的“通码”,古代历史不再因无人解读而局部湮灭。须知。最大的湮灭不是书籍的亡佚,而是失去对其文字的解读能力。
在这方面我至少看到了埃及文明中断、中华文明延续的一个技术性原因。初一看文字只是工具,但中国这么大,组成这么复杂,各个方言系统这么强悍,地域观念、族群观念、文阀观念这么浓烈,连家具、器用、口音、饮食都统一不了,要统一文字又是何等艰难!在其他文明故地,近代考古学家遇到最大的麻烦就是古代文字的识别,常常是花费几十年才猜出几个,有的到今天还基本上无法读通,但这种情况在中国没有发生,就连甲骨文也很快被释读通了。我想,所谓文明的断残首先不是古代城郭的废弛,而是一大片一大片黑黝黝的古文字完全不知何意。为此,站在尼罗河边,对秦始皇都有点想念。
当法老们把自己的遗体做戍木乃伊的时候,埃及的历史也成了木乃伊,而秦始皇却让中国历史活了下来。我们现在读几千年的古书,就像读朋友刚刚寄来的信件,这是其他几种文明都不敢想象的。
站在金字塔前,我对埃及文化的最大感慨是:我只知道它如何衰落,却不知道它如何构建;我只知道它如何离开,却不知道它如何到来。就像一个不知从何而来的巨人,默默无声地表演了几个精彩的大动作之后轰然倒地,摸他的口袋,连姓名、籍贯、遗嘱都没有留下,多么叫人敬畏。
金字塔禁止人攀援,但底下的八、九级,去爬也没有人阻止。我爬上几级,贴身抬头,长久地仰望着它。它经过几千年“作旧”,已经失去任何细部的整齐,一切直角变成了圆钝,一切直线变成了颤笔,因此很像一种天造地设的自然生成物,但在总体上,细部的嶙峋仍然综合成直笔。世上其他景物大多是自然构划整体,人力雕琢细部,金字塔正好相反,磨琢细部的是自然,构成整体的是人类。金字塔在不声不响之中就撑开了两笔,写了中国的一个“人”字。两笔陡峭得干净利落,顶部直指太阳,让人睁不开眼,只有白云在半坡上殷勤地衬托。
听到许戈辉在摄像机前说“永久”,仿佛提到,再过五千年,它们还会是这个样子。这便启发了我的一个想法-
金字塔至今不肯坦示为什么要如此永久,却不小心透露了永久是什么。
永久是简单,永久是糙粝,永久是毫不弯曲的憨直,永久是对荒漠和水萆交接的占据,永久是对千年风沙的接受和滑落。
无法解读是埃及文明的悲剧,但对金字塔本身而言,它比那些容易解读的文明遗物显得永久。通俗是他人侵凌的通道,逻辑是后人踩踏的阶梯,而它干脆来一个漠然无声,也就筑起了一道障壁。因此还可以补充两句:
永久是对意图的掩埋,是把复杂的逻辑化作了朴拙。
