参考答案:Topic C: The Joy of Travel
—Hi, do you think you’re an athletic person
—What do you mean
—I mean do you like sports, such as swimming, playing badminton, climbing mountains, jogging, or other kinds of sports
—Yeah, of course. You know I like to travel so much that I’ll do it at least once a year, but mostly around the country. If I have the chance one day, I think I’ll travel all over the world.
—Great! That’s something we have in common. Traveling is my favorite activity too. So much pleasure can be gained by it.
—Right! The best thing I like about travel is that there are so many interesting people to meet on the way. Last year I met an interesting guy while camping. He had bought three caps which were exactly the same. He claimed that he liked the style and color and didn’t want to wear anything different even when one of the caps had been washed.
—Really I met someone who would bring his bowls and chopsticks wherever he goes and refuses to use the ones offered by restaurants.
—That makes me remember another joy of travel—the miscellaneous foods I could taste.
—Truly, by traveling we could get to know the food and culture of the area. It’s well known in China that Hunan and Sichuan foods are characterized by their hot flavor, but when people from these two places move to the north, they will find it distasteful to eat too much hot food.
—The weather conditions in south and north China are quite different.
—Besides eating, traveling could be a kind of good physical exercise if we could take good care of ourselves. In the open air we breathe the fresh air, listen to birds’ singing, which brings you closer to nature, and forget your worries.
—I feel the same way. And every time I return from my travel, I will have a wholly new conception and idea about everything around me. Even if something annoying had happened before I started on the way, I’d like to re-examine it with more tolerance and understanding when coming back.
—You are indeed a good traveler! From my own experience I think travel is a good way of broadening our horizon because there’s always something exotic to see and to observe. That attracts me greatly.
—Perhaps we’ll travel together someday.
Topic D: Changing Jobs
—What’s your career choice when you graduate from college
—I plan to be a geologist.
—Do you expect to continue with that career for your whole life
—Well, let me think. Eh, maybe not for a lifetime. Some day A will change my job for some reason or other, I think.
—Actually nowadays there’re many people changing their jobs for various reasons. I think you’ re one of those. What do you think your reasons or their reasons will be
—Maybe for better pay, for promotion in social position, for establishing one’s own career, for better working conditions, for the sake of one’s beloved one and many others.
—But my idea is that today’s young people are changing their jobs too frequently, for instance, once in one year or two years or even twice in a year. That’s not good from any perspective. Not good for them and not good for the company they’re working for either.
—That’s only your personal idea. They have their own understanding of changing careers. Some of them change so often because they want to locate themselves in a position that fits them most since they had little information about the real world while studying in universities.
—But how on earth would they interpret the term "fit most" Do you think you would ever find a job which you feel fits you most It’s just a relative conception. If we work hard and feel OK about the current situations we will certainly do a good job and get a sense of satisfaction or fulfillment from the work.
—The problem is that those job jumpers are not satisfied with their current situations so they decide to leave. You know people don’t have many years to waste before they could settle down satisfactorily.
—Don’t they have any sense of responsibility for the group they’re working for It’s a great loss for the group if they just leave after staying for a short time with the group having training them and allowing them to do so much "experiment" without bringing any essential profits in return
—Of course there will be loss of some sort in terms of the group. But there will also be people who finally find themselves comfortable working here and decide to stay.
