炸果子的这个女人有点儿瘸。

她没有丈夫,丈夫三年前出车祸死了。她有一个女孩,七岁,今年上了小学。她原是一家阀门厂的工人,后来工厂放假,她就摆摊炸果子。一张桌,几把椅子,一张案板,十斤面。她和面很有规律,一天十斤面。用刀把面划开,用啤酒瓶子滚滚压压,再用刀切成小长条,两条一拉一捏,放进油锅里用大筷子翻动几下,眼见着果子就黄黄地酥酥地膨起来。

“浆子、果子、豆腐脑儿哎——”

她喊一声,尾音拖得长长的。   

她知道,她喊过一声之后,她的第一个顾客就该到了。

果然,朦胧中那个终年一身蓝衣裤的哑男人拖着扫帚走过来了。

哑男人是市保洁大队红卫中队的工人,负责扫这条街。他四十几岁的年纪,没家没业,白天扫街,晚上回中队打更,无烟酒嗜好,爱吹口琴,却不识谱,死记硬背了两支歌,一支《洪湖赤卫队》,一支《铁道游击队》。心情好就吹“赤卫队”,心情郁闷就吹“游击队”,他的口琴和他形影不离。

他到女人的摊上吃早点,一碗豆腐脑儿,三根果子,最后喝一碗豆浆。

女人说:“你很会生活。”

他抬头笑笑,从口袋里掏出半截白毛巾在嘴上擦了又擦。

他是一个干净人,一条毛巾截成两半,两半毛巾像两个爱脸面的女孩子,一个赛一个白。

他自己洗衣服,那套不下身的衣服已经由蓝变白,领口袖头都起了毛边。

同事都逗他:“搞套西服穿上,攒那些钱干啥?”

他把六个衣袋都从里往外翻出来,意思是说他没有钱。

同事就佯装去解他的铺盖卷。

他总去那摊上吃早点,认识了女人的孩子。孩子有一个好听的名字,叫金铃。

金铃是他的知音。

周日的早上,金铃不去上学,就也扎了个小围裙来帮妈妈经营。她人小脑子却快,一般的账难不倒她。她有一双黑溜溜的大眼睛,红衣红裤梳短头,精神着呢。她早早地起来,还有点儿犯困,到底是孩子。可一见了哑巴她的神儿就提起来。哑巴一吃完早点,她就缠过去,一定要听个曲儿。听个什么曲呢?当然是《洪湖赤卫队》。

这一早,都市小街的口琴和着远处广场上扭秧歌的锣鼓唢呐成了一种特殊的奏鸣。

金铃说:“咱要住一块儿就好了,天天晚上能听你吹口琴。”

孩子一句无遮挡的话,惊了两个大人。哑巴执了口琴怔怔地坐在那里,一口气叹得悠长。

女人也是,油条在锅里已经变焦变黑了,她拿筷子的手还静静地放在那里。
