动物的葬礼  张哲  

①在动物中,很多种类都会对死亡的同类表现出一种“恻隐之心”或“悼念之情”,并且举行各种各样的“葬礼”。   

②生活在我国云南南部西双版纳的亚洲象的“葬礼”极为隆重。当一头象不幸遇难或染疾死亡后,象群便会结队而行,在首领的带领下将死者运送到山林深处。雄兽们用象牙掘松地面的泥土,挖掘墓穴,将死者放入后,大家一起用鼻子卷起土块,朝死者投去,很快将其掩埋。然后,首领带着大家一起用脚踩土,将墓穴踩得严严实实。最后,首领发出一声号叫,大家便绕着“墓穴”慢慢行走,以示哀悼。  

③栖息在澳大利亚草原上的一种野山羊见到同类的尸骸便会伤心不已,它们愤怒地用头、角猛撞树干,使之发出阵阵轰响,颇似人类“鸣枪致哀”的场面。生活在炎热非洲的一种獾,常常采取“水葬”的方式处理死者。一旦有同伴死去,群体就立即聚拢过来,小心翼翼地将同伴的尸体拖入江中,伴随着滚滚的江水,仰头呜咽不已,表示哀悼。  

④猕猴的情感更为深沉。老者断气以后,后代们就会围着它凄然泪下,然后一齐动手挖坑掩埋。它们把死者的尾巴留在外边,然后静悄悄地观察动静。如果吹来一阵风,把死猴的尾巴吹动,就兴奋地把死者再挖出来,百般抚摸,以为能够复活。只有见到死者毫无反应之后,才绝望地重新将其掩埋。  

⑤在鸟类中,鹤类是极富情感的种类。生活在北美洲沼泽地带的美洲鹤,如果发现死亡的同类,便会久久地在其尸体上空盘旋徘徊。然后,由首领带着群体飞落地面,默默地绕着尸体转圈,悲伤地“瞻仰”死者的遗容。生活在亚洲北部的灰鹤则停立在尸体前面,发出凄楚的叫声,眼中似乎泪光闪闪,垂首泣涕,似乎在召开庄严肃穆的“追悼会”。  

⑥在南美洲亚马孙河流域的森林中,生活着一种体态娇小的文鸟,它们的葬礼也许是动物世界最为文明的一种。它们用嘴叼来绿叶、浆果和五颜六色的花瓣,撒在同类的尸体上,以示悼念。同样栖息在南美洲的一种秃鹫,则选择了“崖葬”的方式。当同伴死后,大家就将尸体撕成碎片,然后用利爪将这些碎片送到高山崖洞之中。放好之后,在崖洞的上空不停地盘旋,以默念死者“归天”的亡灵。  

⑦乌鸦的“葬礼”是大家在山坡上排成弧形,死者躺在中间。群体中的首领站在一旁发出“啊,啊”的叫声,好像在致“悼词”。然后有两只乌鸦飞过去,把死者衔起来送到附近的池塘里,最后大家由首领带队,集体飞向池塘的上空,一边盘旋,一边哀鸣,数圈之后,才向“遗体”告别,各自散去
