     Some years ago I took on a job in a village to work with people on public welfare (福利). What I needed

没有双手的巴尔扎克像

  不少人都知道“断臂维纳斯”的雕像举世闻名,可是否知道在法国巴黎的艺术馆里,陈列着一尊世界艺术珍品——失去双手的法国大文豪巴尔扎克的雕像。说起这尊雕像的来历,还有一段耐人寻味的故事。

  巴尔扎克是法国的一位伟大的作家,他逝世后,法国作家协会为了纪念他,请当时著名的雕塑大师罗丹塑一座巴尔扎克像。罗丹接受这个任务后,为塑这座像伤透了脑筋。因为巴尔扎克其貌不扬,身材又矮又胖,头大肚圆,这样的形象如何塑造呢?罗丹经过反复的思考,决定不掩盖巴尔扎克身体的弱点,而着重表现这位伟大作家的精神美,把刻画重点放在巴尔扎克的脸部。

  罗丹为了雕刻这座像,简直到了废寝忘食的程度。原定一年半完成,结果整整地花了七年的时间。巴尔扎克的雕像诞生了。只见他身披宽袖长袍,双手叠合在胸前,昂着颗硕大的脑袋,额纹紧皱,两眼注视着前方,目光中带着深深的思考,好像在构思一部作,酝酿一个细节,述说一个生活的哲理……

  雕塑完工后,罗丹叫他的几个学生来欣赏。几个学生一踏进工作室,立刻惊叹了。一个学生说:“上帝啊,只有上帝才能创造出如此完美、如此生动的双手!”另一个学生说:“是啊,这双手简直像活的一样,无与伦比啊!”罗丹听着听着,眉头皱起来了。突然,他顺手操起一把斧子,“咔嚓”砍掉了雕像的两只手。看着学生惊讶的目光,罗丹解释说:“我要着重表现的是巴尔扎克的脸部,但是,你们一进门,就被这双手吸引住了,说明这双手比他的脸部更突出。只有砍去这双手,才能突出巴尔扎克的脸部!”

  可腊,罗丹的想法和行为当时并没有得到人们的理解,大家纷纷指责他,法国作家协会也不要这座塑像了。然而,罗丹却始终认为自己是对的,他坚信,有一天,人们会认识这座塑像的价值的。果然,罗丹逝世后,人们重新发现并认识了这座塑像,把它敬放到巴黎艺术馆。每当后世的人们站在雕像前瞻仰着巴尔扎克的风采时,无不为罗丹的独具匠心由衷敬佩。
