     I can honestly say it was the best of times and the worst of times. I was joyfully expecting my first

蜜蜂消失,人类只能再活四年?

①大多数人一想起蜜蜂,就会想到蜂蜜、蜂胶、蜂王浆……但这些和蜜蜂对大自然做出的最大贡献——维持生物多样性相比,实在太微不足道。爱因斯坦曾经预言:“如果蜜蜂从地球上消失,那人类只能再活四年。”因为,蜜蜂是为植物授粉的一支生力军。世界上有数万种植物的繁育依靠蜜蜂授粉,而在人类所种植的农作物中,也有1000多种离不开蜜蜂。

②假如蜜蜂消失,人们将告别大多数的粮食和蔬菜瓜果。此外,蜜蜂还为众多饲料植物授粉,没有它,肉类和牛奶也将变得稀有和昂贵;世界上植物类型变得单调,这会直接影响各种动物的生存……也就是说:如果在生态系统中丢失了一个环节,整个系统便会开始崩溃。

③令人不安的是,蜜蜂消失的事件正在发生。在美国,一些蜜蜂突然神秘地消失得无影无踪,在不到一年的时间里,美国有超过60%的蜜蜂消失。如今,蜜蜂消失现象又像瘟疫一样传到了德国、瑞士、西班牙、葡萄牙、意大利和希腊等欧洲国家。

④实际上,不仅仅是蜜蜂遭遇到了生存危机,没有天敌的北极霸主——北极熊也被列为濒危动物。由于气候变暖,北极熊生活的冰面缩小,食物来源变得稀缺,让北极熊的数量也越来越少。冬天,居然有饥肠辘辘的北极熊残忍地捕杀小熊来填饱肚子。

⑤根据联合国的一份报告,目前物种灭绝的速度由大致每天一种加快到每小时一种,比以前快了约1000倍,比新物种的形成速度更是快了100万倍。即使根据最保守的估计,地球上也有至少10%的物种正在面临生存威胁。

⑥一旦某种生物绝种,就永远消失,无法弥补;而每当我们失去一样物种,我们就失去一项对未来的选择。随着某种生物的灭绝,或许治疗艾滋病或发展抗病毒农作物的希望也会跟着破灭。

⑦在地球史上,曾经过发生5次物种灭绝。最近的一次发生在6500万年前,一次陨石撞击地球,造成了包括恐龙在内的大量物种的灭绝。目前,地球再一次走向物种灭绝的边缘,原因却是人类本身的行为:在过去的100年里,地球上45%的森林已经被政伐掉了;全球20%的珊瑚礁已经遭到无法逆转的彻底破坏,而另外50%的珊瑚礁也接近崩溃边缘……联合国将2010年定为“国际生物多样性年”,呼吁各国政府和全世界人民共同努力来保护地球上的生命。

⑧和许多人的理解不同,在生态系统中,是没有“害虫”和“益虫”这类概念的,每个物种都有其特定的“使命”。例如,昆虫吃的往往是一些老弱病残的树,或许正好切断了树木疾病的传播途径。因此,地球上的每个物种都值得尊敬和保护。

⑨作为人类的个体,我们能为保护生物多样性做出什么贡献呢?我们可以不再吃珍稀野生动物,少吃肉类多吃素食,节约用纸和燃气,少坐车多步行……其实,由于人类活动与生物多样性关系太密切,只要我们能稍微压制一点点欲望,都是对保护生物多样性做出的贡献。
