More than one American child dislike getting advice from members of their family. They turn to
"strangers". While they need advice, they don't usually go to people they know. Instead many of them
wrote letters to newspapers and magazine that give advice on many different subjects included family
problems, the use of language, health, cooking, child care, clothes, and even in how to buy a house or
a car. Most newspapers regular print letters from readers with problems. Along with letters there are
answers written by people who are supposed to know what to solve such problems. Some of these
writers are doctors, others are lawyers or educators. But two of the most famous writers of advice are
women who without special training for this kind of work.
