The relationship between student and teacher is less formal in the USA than in many other countries, especially at the college level. When teachers come into the classroom , the students don’t need to stand up. Students are generally encouraged to ask questions during class, to go to the teacher’s office for help after class, and to phone if they can’t go to school and need help with their lessons. (2)Most teachers allow students to enter class late or leave early, if necessary.

However, students are still asked to be    (1)   to their teacher and classmates and to be (1)   during a test. When students want to ask questions, they usually put up a hand and wait. When the teacher or a student is speaking to the class ,it’s rude to talk to another classmate, even in a low voice. When a test is being given, talking to a classmate is not only rude but also wrong. In the eyes of most American teachers, students who are talking to each other during a test are cheating(作弊).

答案

小题1:polite, honest

4:In the eyes of most American teachers, students who are talking to each other during a test are cheating.

小题5:The relationship between student and teacher is less formal in the USA than in many other countries, especially at the college level.

Students are generally encouraged …, to go to the teacher’s office for help after class(学生们被鼓励课后去老师办公室寻求帮助)可知答案是:They go to the teacher’s office for help after class.。

In the eyes of most American teachers, students who are talking to each other during a test are cheating.(在绝大多数的美国老师眼中,在测试过程中交谈的学生就是作弊。)

The relationship between student and teacher is less formal in the USA than in many other countries, especially at the college level.。

Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from

mine. There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her

window each afternoon, sewing or reading.

After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear

through the dirty window. I would say to myself, "I wonder why that woman doesn't wash her window.

It really looks terrible."

One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside.

Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning. I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for

a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her

window was clean!

Then it drawed on me. I had been criticizing (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching

hers through my own dirty window.

That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the

dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcoming (缺点).

Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (评判) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him

through my own dirty window?" Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the

world about me more clearly.
