A. The character for "sun" was a circle with a dot (点) in the center. The character for "man" looked like a body

    with two legs.

B. The Chinese began writing their language over 3, 000 years ago. Their way of writing is very different from

    that of English writing.

C. Now the language of Chinese has greatly been developed. More and more people outside China are beginning

    to learn Chinese. It has become one of the most charming languages in the world.

D. It is written in characters. The early characters were a little like pictures. Each one stood for a different

    character.

E. As time went on, the characters changed. New ones appeared and many became different in meaning from

    their shapes. People could no longer tell what a character meant just by looking at it.
