科学发展观的核心是以人为本。但从近期发生的几起安全事故和突发事件不难发现,一些干部仍然把“以人为本”理念放在一边,对人民群众的生命财产极端不负责任。在急功近利思想的主导下,一些干部对明明需要纠正的事,却视而不见;明明按规定不能做的事,却照做不误;把人命关天的大事当成小事。结果是,本来可以解决的问题却小事拖大,本来可以化解在萌芽状态的矛盾却拖成了复杂事件,本来可以立即纠正的错误却延误了时机。
尽管2003年以来领导干部问责制逐步建立,但少数干部的责任意识还没有完全树立起来,对人民群众的冷暖安危还没有真正放在心上,享乐主义、拜金主义、个人主义仍然在一些干部的身上存在。

      People have strange ideas about food. For example, the tomato is a kind of very delicious vegetable. It is
one of the useful plants that can be prepared in many ways. It has rich nutrition (营养) and vitamin (维他命)
in it. But in the 18th century, Americans never ate tomatoes. They grew them in their gardens because tomato
plants are so pretty. But they thought the vegetable was poisonous (有毒的). They called tomatoes "poison
apples".
      President Thomas Jefferson, however, knew that tomatoes were good to eat. He was a learned man. He
