渔夫织网

       有一个渔夫贪图省事,织的网只有一张桌子那么大。他出海一天也没有捕到一条鱼,垂头丧气地回到了家。邻居对他说:“你织的网实在太小了,哪能捕到鱼? 还是把网织得大一点再出海捕鱼吧。”     

       渔夫听了邻居的话,就认真地在家织网,几天下来,把网织得和邻居的一样大。渔夫带着他的大网出海捕鱼,一天下来,捕到了许多鱼,他唱着歌,高高兴兴地回到了家。     

       渔夫想,看来捕鱼多少的关键是网的大小。如果我把网织得更大,那捕到的鱼一定还要多。渔夫不再出海捕鱼,一天接一天在家织网,几天下来,他把原来就很大的网又扩大了几倍。巨网织好后,渔夫就带着它出海捕鱼去了,他花了好大的功夫才把巨网撒入大海。渔夫想,这一网收起来,鱼一定可以装满一船,想着想着,他乐出了声。       

       渔夫准备收网了,一拉网,觉得好沉好沉,拉了半天也拉不上来。网中确实有许多鱼,鱼儿们拼命地向大海深处游去,把渔夫的小船也拉得翻了身。渔夫这才知道,网并非是越大越好,贪得无厌,往往会得到相反的结果。

Tt was a village in India. The people were poor . However, they were not unhappy. After all , their forefathers had lived in the same way for centuries.

Then one day, some visitors from the city arrived . They told the villagers there were some people elsewhere who liked to eat frog’s legs. However, they did not have enough frogs of their own, and so they wanted to buy frogs from other places.

This seemed like money for nothing . There were millions of frogs in the fields around, and they were  no use to the villagers. All they had to do was catch them . Agreement was reached, and the children were sent into the fields to catch frogs. Every week a truck arrived to collect the catch and hand over the money. For the first time ,the people were able to dream of a better future. But the dream didn’t last long.

The change was hardly noticed at first ,but it seemed as if the crops were not doing so well. More worrying was that the children fell ill more often ,and ,there seemed to be more insects around lately.

The villagers decided that they couldn’t just wait to see the crops failing and the children getting weak. They would have to use the money earned to buy pesticides (杀虫剂)and medicines. Soon there was no money left .

Then the people realized what was happening.Tt was the frog .They hadn’t been useless. They had been doing an important job-eating insects. Now with so many frogs killed , the insects were increasing more rapidly. They were damaging the crops and spreading diseases.

Now, the people are still poor .But in the evenings they sit in the village square and listen to sounds of insects and frogs. These sounds of the night now have a much deeper meaning.
